Jewelry care

Your jewelry is made to be worn — but a few simple habits will keep it looking its best for years.

The simple rules (for everything)

  • Last on, first off. Put jewelry on after skincare, perfume, and hair products.

  • Keep it dry. Take off before showering, swimming, hot tubs, and cleaning.

  • Gym rule: remove before workouts (especially rings). Sweat + impact + friction = faster wear.

  • Store separately. Soft pouch or box, pieces not touching each other to avoid scratches.

Cleaning (the safe method)

For most pieces, this is all you need:

  1. Warm water + a drop of mild soap

  2. Soft toothbrush (gentle)

  3. Rinse, pat dry, and store fully dry

Avoid: bleach, chlorine, harsh cleaners, abrasive toothpaste, and “dip” solutions unless they’re specifically made for your metal/stone.

Sterling Silver (925) + patina

Sterling silver naturally oxidizes over time — that’s normal.

To keep it bright:

  • Wipe with a soft cloth after wearing.

  • For a deeper clean, use the safe method (soap + warm water).

About patina:
Some pieces have intentional patina in the texture. Aggressive polishing can lighten those darker details. If you love the contrast, stick to gentle cleaning and a soft cloth.

Gold Vermeil (18K gold over sterling silver)

Vermeil is designed for everyday wear — but it’s still a layer, so treat it gently.

Best habits:

  • Keep it away from water, lotions, perfumes, and sweat as much as possible.

  • Store it dry and separate from harder metals (to prevent micro-scratches).

Cleaning:

  • Use the safe method (warm water + mild soap) and dry completely.

Solid Gold (18K)

Solid gold is durable and made to be worn, but it can still pick up fine scratches from daily life.

Cleaning:
Use the safe method or a soft cloth.

White Gold = rhodium-plated gold

Most white gold jewelry is finished with rhodium plating for a bright, crisp white tone.

  • Rhodium wears very well, but over a long time it can softly fade with friction.

  • If that happens, a local jeweler can re-plate it. Most people do this rarely, if at all.

Diamonds + stone settings (mini care guide)

Diamonds are tough — but their settings can loosen over time with everyday wear and impact.

Keep stones looking bright:

  • Clean with warm water + mild soap and a soft brush.

  • Avoid heavy lotions on stone surfaces (they can dull the sparkle).

Important (settings):
If a stone ever feels loose, stop wearing the piece and have it checked by a local jeweler. We inspect every piece before shipping, but settings can loosen over time with wear. If you’re unsure what to do next, email us — we’ll point you in the right direction.

Sunshine Polishing Cloth

A Sunshine cloth is great for bringing back shine.

  • Sterling silver: yes — you can polish normally.

  • Gold vermeil: yes — but use a very light touch (gentle buffing only). Heavy polishing can wear the gold layer faster.

Tip: If your piece has patina details, polish only the raised areas and avoid scrubbing the darker textures.

Storage & travel

  • Store each piece in its own pouch/slot.

  • Don’t toss jewelry loose in a bag (chains tangle, stones scratch, vermeil scuffs).

  • Make sure everything is fully dry before storing.
